Q&A: How to reformat hard disk with no recovery disk?

Question by Angela: How into reformat hard disk with no recovery disk?
My old computer (HP Pavilion, purchased around 4 years ago?) didn’t come with any recovery disks. It has a partitioned recovery drive. I had a bad virus situation. I took the hard disk out, put it onto my laptop, & got all the data out. Now, I’d like into reinstall windows. Can I do that without a recovery disk? Can I burn a recovery disk from the recovery drive? Can I download it? (I got a new computer for myself, but I’d like into make the old computer work & let my kids use it.) Thanks so much for any help!

Thanks, Angie

no…what you can do is restore into one of the restore points (in your recovery drive) then use acronis true image into create a image of the hard drive in 4.7GB sections. Then burn each issue into a DVD…and install from there..but at that point after restoring it there would be no point in imaging the hard drive. you can however when the pc starts up hit the vital it specifies usually F8, ESC, F12, or DEL..then restore into factory settings.

If it has a recovery partition, you need to watch carefully during boot-up for the correct key to press to start the recovery from the partition. It is usually a function key. The key to press is usually shown on the vendor screen.
